The playoff-bound Summerville Bears baseball team almost took down the Mother Lode League champs on Wednesday.

Trailing 3-0 after three innings, the Bears rallied to tie the game in the sixth, but Linden rallied for a run in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 4-3 victory and finish the MLL undefeated (15-0).

Logen Foster hurled a complete game for the Bears allowing just three hits, three walks, one earned run while fanning seven. He faced a total of 31 batters in 6 1/3 innings.

"Logen Foster is just on right now," said Bears head coach Larry Gold. "It was his game. He threw absolutely beautiful."

Foster won a pair of games in relief last week and earned the start against the MLL champs.

Colton Ebbers stayed hot at the plate for Summerville (9-5 MLL), going 3 for 4 with a pair of runs batted in.

Also for the Bears, Brendan Brick was 1 for 2 with a run scored and Bryce Farrell, Joey Brocchini, Connor Morningstar and Trevor Larsson each went 1 for 3, Brick and Larsson scored runs.

"The kids never gave up," Gold said. "They have come together at the right time and we're looking forward to the playoffs."

The Bears will face Orestimba, the No. 2 seed from the Trans Valley League, in the first round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Championships at 4 p.m. on May 16 at Billy Hebert Field in Stockton.

JV Wildcats sweep Cougars to end season

The Sonora junior varsity baseball team finished the season this week with a sweep of Weston Ranch on Monday and Tuesday.

The Wildcats defeated the Cougars at home on Monday 9-2, and traveled to Weston Ranch on Tuesday and earned a 12-0 victory.

Tyler Casteel pitched a complete game on Monday for the victory, and Conner Todd pitched a complete for the win on Tuesday.

Sonora finished the season with an overall record of 12-11-1 and finished its Valley Oak League slate with an 8-6 record.
