The Bret Harte boys' golf team completed its sixth undefeated season in dual match play with a win over the Summerville Bears on Tuesday at Mountain Springs.
And the Bullfrog golfers won their 97th straight match in style, shooting the lowest combined score for the course in school history - a 191.
"They were all excited about the score and going undefeated," said Bret Harte head coach Rich Cathcart of his Bullfrogs.
Bullfrog freshman Colin Casey and senior Jayden Saville each shot a match-low 37, 1-over-par, to earn co-medalist honors. All-League MVP frontrunner Alex Milward shot a 38 while Scott Hatfield finished with a 39 and Rodney Riner recorded a 40.
Bret Harte's combined team score was only 11-over-par.
"After Jayden shot a 37 and Rodney came in with 40, I thought if someone else shoots in the 30s then we'll be in the clear," said Casey. "Then everyone was really excited when Scott shot a 39. It was pretty cool."
Casey moved to the area from his native Switzerland over the summer and has been consistently posting low scores on the golf course for Bret Harte all season.
He said Tuesday's win was extra special given the fact it was the last dual match as Bullfrogs for the team's seniors.
"I knew it was important to them that we win," Casey said.
For Riner, a senior, the win felt like the culmination of years worth of dedication to the sport.
"I'm proud of all the hard work we put in," he said. "This definitely proves that going to all the practices to make ourselves better was worth it."
Cathcart credited the community for helping to sustain Bret Harte's continued success in golf.
"We've had great kids all these years and there are a lot of people who help me," Cathcart said. "The pros at the courses up here and all the staff have been very good to our junior golfers and that's a big reason why we've been so successful."
The Bullfrogs are currently in first place with 50 team points going into the final Mother Lode League tournament of the 2013 season where they will need to finish in fourth place in order to secure another MLL title.
The Calaveras Redskins (10-5) are second in the MLL with 36 points followed closely by Argonaut (11-4) with 34 and Linden (3-12) with 14, Summerville (6-9) with 12 and Amador (0-14) with 4.
Summerville shot a 223 in Tuesday's loss to the Bullfrogs, which against any other MLL opponent would have likely been low enough to pull off a win.
Bear senior Jesse Roberson shot the team-low 38, while Charlie McClung shot a 42, Kyle McLaurin 45, Max Wulf 48 and Jordan Barcelos 50.
