The Bret Harte girls' swim team had strong finishes at the Mother Lode League Swimming Championship held Friday at Bret Harte Aquatic Center and were able to hold onto first place for the MLL title.
"We couldn't be more proud of our athletes," said Bret Harte head coach Lauren Gerber. "They have worked so hard this year, with all the miles swam and early morning practices attended, and finished the season with numerous personal record being broken."
The Bullfrogs edged the Linden girls by just two points, 371-369, to win the meet with first-place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 freestyle. Amador finished third with 202 points, Calaveras in fourth with 162 and Argonaut fifth with 111.
Bret Harte sophomore Bethanni Riedel, senior Erika Rasmussen, senior Riley Preston and senior Haley Warner made up the 200 Medley Relay that finished first in the event in 2:10.12.
Bullfrog freshman Kaitlyn McCratic took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:16.56.
The boys' swim team finishedin third place at the meet with 277 points, while Linden took the top spot with 298, Calaveras second with 281, Argonaut fourth with 265 and Amador fifth with 104.
"The Bret Harte boys were challenged by all the MLL teams and some unfortunate disqualifications, but battled their way to a third place finish in the meet," Gerber said.
The boys finished tied for second place overall in the MLL.
Bullfrog freshman Brennan Thompson finished second in the 500 freestyle and swam a junior varsity section meet qualifying time of 5:29.19, which also tops his personal record by 15 seconds.
"Our section qualifiers are now focused on the section meet," Gerber said. "We will have two weeks more of practice and hope to have some breakthrough swims on May 9 and 10 in Lodi at Tokay High School."
