Wildcats fall to Spartans

The Union Democrat Sports Department /

The Sonora Wildcats suffered their second consecutive loss to the Lathrop Spartans, 4-2, on Friday at Bev Barron Field. Spartan pitcher Preston Rizo limited the home team to three hits while striking out 14 in his complete-game effort. His gem offset a solid performance from Sonora sophomore Carter Denton who allowed just two earned runs in five innings. "Carter pitched really well," said Cats head coach Scott Johnson. "We were hoping for three or four good innings and he gave us five." Sonora (1-3 Valley Oak League) will next host the Manteca Buffaloes (4-0 VOL) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
