The Sonora Wildcats defeated the Bret Harte Bullfrogs 10-7 on Saturday at Bev Barron Field in a non-league clash.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the first, but the Bullfrogs answered with two in the fourth to tie the game.
Sonora took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth off a Gino Balestrieri double that brought home Ryan Stevenson from first.
The Wildcats broke open the game with five runs in the fifth inning to make it 8-2.
Wildcat ace Stevenson threw the first three innings and allowed three hits while fanning six.
Justin Payne relieved in the fourth and threw two innings and allowed two runs while striking out four.
Carter Denton hurled the final two innings allowing three runs while striking out three.
Wyatt Hockett started for Bret Harte and threw four solid innings before being relieved. Hockett gave up three hits and two runs while striking out three.
"We played well today," said Bret Harte head coach Zack Abernathy. "Hockett threw well and we out hit Sonora (10-6). We just need to hone our defense and find the couple pitchers we can rely on consistently and we will be able to compete with most teams.
"It was good to see some good pitching and be able to hit it. We got 10 hits off pitching that is as good as any we will see in league, including three hits off Stevenson. This is a sign of us starting to come into our own."
For Sonora (9-4) at the plate, Balestrieri was 1 for 2, Rocky Rozadilla was 1 for 3 with two RBIs, Stevenson was 1 for 4 with two RBIS and Tyler Helm and Nick Harris each scored a pair of runs.
For Bret Harte (2-7), Tyler Tafjen went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, John rohrabaugh was 2 for 2 with three runs scored, Kyle Bennett doubled and scored and Chad Testa, McCullough and Camron Herrin each drove in a run.
Sonora will take a week off before getting back to Valley Oak League play on Apr. 2 at Lathrop.
The Bullfrogs will next play at Amador on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
