Sonora tracksters compete at Kimball

With some families and student athletes getting an early start on their spring break, the Sonora Wildcat track team battled in small numbers at the Jaguar Invitational Saturday at Kimball High School.

Several Wildcats brought home medals, which were awarded to the top five in each event.

"It was a fun meet and great experience for our team to compete against 15 schools," said Wildcat head coach Frank Garcia. "Many of our athletes came home with medals."

Jeff Storey and sophomore Bryce Sanguinetti led Sonora with second-place finishes. Storey, a senior, leaped 20-3 in the long jump while Sanguinetti reached 12-0 in the pole vault.

Sanguinetti also placed fifth in the high jump (5-6) and sixth in the triple jump (38-4).

Also for Sonora, sophomore Makena Klatt placed third in the long jump with (15-1 1/4) and fourth in the triple jump (32-05 3/4) and Joe Maloney placed seventh in the 100m (11.58).

Two Wildcat track stars, Storey and Steven Grolle, will compete at the prestigious Stanford Invitational next weekend.

The Wildcats' next VOL meet will be at home against Lathrop on Wednesday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m.

Frosh/soph-For Sonora, Paul Mika won the long jump reaching 18-3; Wyatt Faughnan placed third in the same event (17-8); Thomas Kruetzfeldt recorded a personal best 10-0 to place third in the pole vault; Kruetzfeldt, Anthony Prophet, Paul Mika and Jesus Rodriguez placed first in the 4x300LH and Jesus Rodriguez tied for second in the high jump (5-0) and placed third in the 100M (11.8).

The frosh/soph boys finished in fifth place overall.
