Dodge Ridge to host 42nd annual ski race

The Union Democrat Sports Department /

Dodge Ridge will host the annual Pincecrest Invitational ski race for the 42nd year.

The race, for area elementary through high school-aged boys and girls, is scheduled for Friday with the first of three runs starting promptly at 10 a.m.

"This is the 42nd year that Dodge Ridge has hosted the Pinecrest Invitational and it's great to see parents and grandparents who competed when they were young cheering on the next generation," said Dodge Ridge President Sally Helm. "We look forward to hosting this event every year because it brings the community and the students of area schools together."

More than 50 skiers and riders are expected to take part in this fun, but fiercely competitive event with trophies going to the top male and female racers, and to the elementary and high school with the fastest four-member teams.

To ensure all students have an opportunity to compete, Dodge Ridge provides free lift tickets, rental ski or snowboard gear and helmets to race participants.

The Creekside Lodge is the hub of the race activities, with registration starting at 8 a.m.

Once the races begin, non-skiing spectators can watch the competition from the comfort of the deck or inside the lodge.

In addition to the race action on the mountain, there will be barbecue lunches, baked goods, organic fruits and event T-shirts for sale on the Creekside Lodge deck throughout the day.

All proceeds raised will benefit the Pinecrest Charter School and its student ski program.
