The Bret Harte Bullfrogs earned its first win of 2013 against the Sonora Wildcats in the inaugural game at Dome Field behind Cassina High School.

The Bullfrogs had five runs in the third and as many in the fourth for a 10-0 victory in five innings. Despite the score, Bret Harte was held to only four hits.

"It turned out to be a steal fest from the other side," said Wildcats head coach Dena Canaday.

Canaday said some adjustments in the third inning forced a few Wildcats to play out of their typical positions and led to a number of stolen bases for the Bullfrogs.

"Defensively, we were strong," said Canaday.

For the Bullfrogs, Cassidy Davis went 1 for 2, Bekka Gross 2 for 2 and CJ Cobb 1 for 2. Meanwhile, Wildcat Cassidy Knowles hit a triple, Katie Hooper went 1 for 2 with a double and Erin Campiotti 1 for 1.

Bret Harte pitcher Taylor O'Connor earned the win.Neither team committed an error.

Canaday was pleased with the way her Wildcats handled the game despite the tough loss.

"The girls were moved to positions that were a little unfamiliar, but they still kept their heads up and didn't let the scoreboard get them down," said Canaday.

She said this year the Wildcats will have to overcome a lack of depth in pitching and catching.

"We're looking forward to the good stuff and the not so good stuff," said Canaday of the season ahead. "They walked away with a smile on their faces today and are going to give it another try tomorrow."

The Wildcats face Pacheco at home this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. Junior varsity plays at 3:30.
