Wildcats split 3-way dual with Lathrop, Weston Ranch

The Sonora Wildcats split a three-way Valley Oak League wrestling dual with Weston Ranch and Lathrop on Wednesday at Bud Castle Gym

The Cats tossed aside Lathrop 48-36 but lost to Weston Ranch 56-21.

Against Lathrop, the eight contested matches were all decided by pin, with the Wildcats holding a 6-2 edge.

Sonora's six victories came consecutively, including the first five from sophomores.

The victors for Sonora were 126-pounder Colton Masters who pinned his opponent at 1:09; Tyler Hammond (132, at 3:54); Bryce Sanguinetti (138, at 5:17); James Mitchell (145, at 1:26) Lucas Pallante (152, at 1:39) and Paul Ravelli, a transfer from Grace Davis who saw his first action of the year, won by pin at 1:00.

Against Weston Ranch, forfeits handicappedthe Wildcats. Sonora gave up 30 points, five matches, for free.

"Forfeits are killing us," said Wildcat head coach Jon Abernathy. "We wrestle pretty evenly with most teams, but give away too many free points.

Winners for Sonora were: Masters by pin at 3:57, Lane Mierop (145) by 3-1 decision and Pallante by 3-2 decision.

The Cats will host the Hatler Tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Bud Castle Gym.
