Cat girls rally, dump Jaguars

Trailing the Kimball Jaguars 30-15 at hafltime in Tracy Wednesday, it appeared as if the Sonora Wildcat girls basketball team was looking at a long bus ride home.

But in a reverse of fortune - and execution - the Wildcats rallied back to stun the Jaguars 52-50 for their second straight win and third in four games.

"What a great second half - it was incredible," said Wildcat head coach Amy Santos. "We switched up our defense and finally started hitting some shots. We put on our press and it definitely had them flustered. We got some steals, converted them to points and we played smart at the end."

The Wildcats narrowed the gap to 38-33 heading into the fourth quarter where they outscored the Jaguars 19-11.

Kimball (12-6, 3-2 Valley Oak League) was tied for second place in the VOL with Weston Ranch heading into the night.

Jessie Fong scored a Wildcat-high 21 points, including three 3-pointers and she also made four steals.

Also for Sonora (11-5, 3-2 VOL), Bryanna Owens scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds, Bailey Henington scored eight points and grabbed five boards and Angela Gardella scored five and hauled in six boards.

"Jessie had a great game and Bryanna played great down low on their big girls," said Santos. "This was such a great win for us. The girls went out and fought for it and really earned this win."

The Cats will look to keep the positive momentum on Friday night when they host rival Oakdale at 7:15 p.m.
