JV Skins hand Cats first defeat

The Union Democrat Sports Department

Nick Elliot scored 14 points and Kyle Funk added 13 to help the Calaveras Redskins junior varsity hoopsters hand the Sonora Wildcats their first loss of the season after 10 straight wins.

The Redskins rallied from a 26-22 halftime deficit.

The Wildcats were led by Camden Wilson's 15 points and eight rebounds, Kahale Warring's 13 points and six boards and Carter Denton's 11 points.

Taylor Manning added 11 points for the Redskins.

The Wildcats next will enjoy a couple of weeks off before starting Valley Oak League play against Weston Ranch on Jan. 2 at Bud Castle Gym.

The Redskins next will compete in the Union Mine Challenge on Friday and Saturday and will open Mother Lode League play against Amador at home on Jan. 2.
