Cat volleyers throttle Sierra

The Union Democrat Sports Department

The host Sonora Wildcats volleyball team upped its record to 7-1 with a 3-0 demolition of Sierra, 25-7, 25-6, 25-12.

For Sonora, Maria Chacon had 10 assists, Bella Bergamaschi nine and Kennedy Cooper one.

In hitting, Mariah Armstrong had eight kills, Sarah Thompson four, and Angela Gardella, Shannon Friend and Cassidy Knowles had three each.

In serving, Ali Pelfrey had seven aces, Knowles four and Bailey Henington three.

Henington and Leah Dambacher had 12 digs each, and Armstrong and Bergamaschi had five each.

Friend had two block solos and 1 block assist, Thompson had one block solo and one block assist, and Armstrong and Aubrey Carter each had one block assist.

"We're very pleased with the way the girls came out and how they handled themselves," said Sonora head coach Kim Evans. "It was a great team win. I am so proud of these girls for coming in every afternoon at practice and working so hard. And then, every match, no matter who we are facing, our girls take that court striving to play well together and obtain their desired result - a win."
