The Union Democrat Sports Department

The Bret Harte golf team whipped Ripon 183-225 last week at Greenhorn Golf Club setting up a first-place showdown this Thursday with Escalon.

Escalon is 4-0 in Valley Foothill League action and the Frogs are 3-0.

Leading the way for Bret Harte on Thursday was Emaline Ellsworth who fired a 40. Also for Bret Harte, Jaymie Heryford fired a personal-low course-score of 44, Melissa Spence shot 47 and Rilee Hillman 52.

"This was a good score for us," said Bret Harte head coach Rich Cathcart. "This is the lowest score we've had at Greenhorn Creek in three or four years.

"Emaline has been very steady. These four - Emaline, Jaymie, Melissa and Rilee - were our top four players last year, too. They're continuing with solid, steady play this year."
