Cats top Sierra, will swim for VOL crowns

The Sonora Wildcat boys' and girls' swim teams dispatched the Sierra Timberwolves on Friday 113-57 and 107-63, respectively, at the Sonora pool.

"Despite a 30-minute lightning delay midway through the meet along with an intense hail storm, and it being Friday the 13th, both the boys and girls varsity teams showed their tough skin with wins," said Wildcat head coach Holly Harris. "The boys had many great swims. Cody Hansten gained a three-second personal best in the 200 freestyle. Danny West had a 13-second drop in the 200 IM and Garrett Ritchey had an eight-second drop in the same event. Spencer Lyons had a 2.8-second improvement in the 100 freestyle, and Dylan Miguel had a 19-second improvement in the 500 free.

"For the girls, Katherine Hohne had a great meet with personal records in both of her individual races, the 200 freestyle and the 100 fly. Shau Haselton-Parke swam an impressive 100 free PR of 1:11.96."

The victories give the Wildcat boys and girls shots at outright Valley Oak League championships on Thursday when they host arch-rival Oakdale at 3:30 p.m.

"Our undefeated boys and girls are primed and ready to swim against rival Oakdale for the VOL championship titles on Thursday," said Harris.
