Calaveras baseball

The Calaveras Redskins closed out their preseason with a 6-5 loss at the hands of the Modesto Christian Crusaders on Wednesday evening in Modesto.

For Calaveras, Mike Seawell had three hits and a pair of stolen bases. Jake Chambers drove in a run with a double and Stewart Zabel, Zach Thompson, Tyler Gillis and Tyler Hughes each had a base-hit.

The Redskins travel to Jackson today to face Argonaut in their Mother Lode League opener.

Thomas Douglas will be on the bump for the Redskins.

Next week, Calaveras plays a two-game series with Summerville. On Wednesday, the Redskins will host the Bears and on Friday they will travel to Tuolumne.

Summerville golf

The Bears upped their Mother Lode League record to 4-1 with a 213-240 home win over Amador on Thursday.

"We had a very good showing on a cool day at Mountain Springs," said Bears head coach Darcy Wingo. "Kyle McLaurin had a great round (38) and seems to be improving daily. Spencer Morse (41) and Jesse Roberson (42) also did very well. JB Mitchell (45) continues to be steady."

Also scoring for Summerville, currently in second place in the MLL, was Charlie McClung (47).

On Tuesday, the Bears defeated Linden 223-231 at Lockeford Springs Golf Course.

"That was a very close match," said Wingo. "It looks like everyone in the MLL is capable of beating someone else at any given time. All of Linden's players also shot in the 40's so it was a good victory."

Against Linden, McClung paced Summerville with a 42, Morse shot a 44 and Mitchell 45. McLaurin and Jordan Fish each shot a 46.
