Bullfrog soccerties with Linden
The Bret Harte Bullfrogs girls' soccer team tied 2-2 with its host Linden on Thursday night.
The Bullfrogs came out strong and scored first in the opening half on goal by sophomore Hailey Smoot, who was making her varsity debut. Midfielder Brie Preston got the assist.
Linden was able to tie the game on a free kick from around 18 yards on a perfectly-placed shot in the upper right-hand corner.
The Bullfrogs re-took the lead on a goal by Abby Strahl in the second half.
Linden tied the game on a "highlight-reel worthy" play said Bullfrog head coach Rosie Sundell.
"A foul set up Linden about 30 yards out with seven minutes left in the game," said Sundell. "Linden took full advantage of the opportunity with a perfectly-placed assist and header. It was a perfectly executed set piece."
It was the Mother Lode League opener for both teams.
"Allie Steele gave us several opportunities to score with a strong performance as outside mid," said Sundell. "Brie Preston and Hailey Smoot did an outstanding job of managing the middle and our defense - Lauran Redding, Dianna Munoz, Connor Eastman, Julia Rohrabaugh and Jessie Stohlman - were exceptionally strong, giving up almost nothing on the night. All-in-all, both teams played an aggressive, but clean soccer game. It was a great opening match for both teams."
The Bullfrogs next will host Argonaut on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
JV-The Bullfrogs defeated Linden 3-1.
Sam Crabtree, Haley Rizzi and Sarah Wilson accounted for the Bullfrog goals.

Sonora JV soccer
Sonora defeated visiting Weston Ranch on Wednesday night.
Sonora's goals were scored by Macey Butow (two), Suzanne Kristapovich, Marissa Ramirez, and Julianne Wright. Sonora goalies Brooke Canepa and Gabby Grande-Edralin were outstanding in the shutout.
"Once again," said Wildcats coach Brian Kelly, "our defense was lead by Sophia Dragun and Ashley Derichweiler. Our middle halfbacks Julianne Wright and Laura Hill kept the pressure on the Weston Ranch offense taking the ball away and distributing the ball to the forwards for the scoring opportunities."
