For The Union Democrat

Dan Isam (High Rollers) bowled the first two games considerably under his average of 223, but then made the necessary adjustments to bowl strike, spare (the 2-8) and then 10 more strikes for the high game of the week of 280. Derek Gregory (Jokers Wild) found his line to bowl the high series for the men with a 268/748 which was also 160 pins over average.

Holly Matranga, subbing for Grapes of Wrath (Umchu Full House), started

out with a sizzling 252 game while Amanda Klaahsen (Umchu Full House)

rolled to the women's high series with a 225/607.

Keeping company in the 700 club is Kevin Flanagan (Umchu Full

House) who rolled a 258/707 and Warren Walker (Jokers Wild) 266/706.

Other notable scores: Monday Nevada – Patrick Pillsbury 681, Ray

Leslie 659 and Matt Clay 653; High Rollers – Warren Walker 254/680;

Young at Heart – Bob Thomas 662; Jokers Wild – Mary Feola 553; and

Umchu Full House – Amanda Klaahsen 225, Holly Matranga 570 and Steve

Feola 651.

In the "I can't believe I beat myself" department, we have: High

Rollers – Dennis Sorci 80 pins over with a 243 and Holly Matranga

(Umchu Full House) 77 pins over with the 252.

Wondering what she could do differently to get something besides a

split was Becky Flanagan (Umchu Full House) as she had six splits in

Game 1, two in Game 2 and one in Game 3. Her split combinations

included 5-10, 4-6-10, 4-5-7 (converted), 4-5, 4-6-7-8, 2-7

(converted), and 4-7-10.

There will be no bowling for several leagues this week due to the

holiday, but all will resume next Monday as they battle their way to

Position Rounds and winners for the first half of the season.

Black Oak will host their monthly Senior No-Tap Tournament on

December 1. For additional information, contact Black Oak Lanes at

928-9419.

In the Gold Country Youth Adult league, the following youth bowlers

recently had special achievements: For the boys - Daylan Cassels 58/82

pins over with a 198/502, Zachery Kuhl 55 over with a 191 and Duncan

Welch 64 over with a 349 and for the girls - Natalie Phillips 61/89

over with a 159/383.

Answer: A spare leave where the head is knocked down and two non-adjacent pins standing (example: 2-7, 5-10, 4-6, 4-6-7-10).
