Historic day for Tioga at Frogtown

The Tioga Timberwolves fielded a full cross country team for the Division V Sub-Section meet at Frogtown on Saturday.

Not only did they field a full team for the first time in school history - they took home the DV title.

"We hadn't competed against most of the teams in our division this season so all we knew about the other teams was what has been published," said Tioga head coach Randy Mittelstadt. "According to the published season bests for each athlete, it looked close between five or six teams."

Tioga finished with 71 points to beat Capital Christian (94), Victory Christian (97) and Foresthill (98).

The Timberwolves were led by sophomore Matt Spring who finished in sixth place with a time of 18:39.

Also for Tioga, freshman Brando Nelson-Haven was 12th (20:00), senior Anthony Hatton and sophomore Johny Amoruso had identical times (20:08) and finished 13th and 14th respectively, senior Beau Casazza was 26th (20:39), and senior Matthew Funk was 45th (22:51).

"We are hoping we can run our best race of the season at sections (Friday) and qualify for the State meet," said Mittelstadt.

The section meet will take place in Folsom and the top three teams from Division V advance.
