SOCCER CATS BLANK CALAVERAS

Briana Ingraham scored two goals and Lacey Jones found the net once for Sonora High School in a 3-0 girls' soccer victory over Calaveras on Saturday at Dunlavy Field.

Natalie Noble assisted the first Ingraham goal early in the game on an indirect free kick after an illegal touch outside the box by Calaveras goalie Grace Chambers.

A long scoreless stretch followed before Jones set up Ingraham in the 71st minute with a crossing pass from the left corner to the right post, and Jones scored unassisted from the left corner of the penalty box a minute later.

Between the first goal and the last two scores, Ingraham, Jessica Mullins, Sheraden Mundy, Noble, Hanna Boyack, and Ciara Downey kept up the offensive pressure, helped by the possession skills of Brittney Warne.

In goal, Kim Lorenzen posted her second straight shutout for Sonora (1-0-1).

She only had to make two saves as defenders Mullins, Nicole Hart and Jeanette Massey, and stopper Lainey Southard turned back drive after drive by Calaveras. Massey swept in to stop one particularly menacing Calaveras threat that saw three Redskin strikers break through.

The Wildcats were shorthanded because of the holiday weekend and because a couple prospects still are playing basketball.

"We hope to be at full strength again shortly after we return from the vacation week," said Sonora coach Rick Mogg, who is being assisted this season by veteran youth-soccer coach Buzz Garvin.

Sonora's next game isn't until Feb. 25 at home against Ceres.
