Sonora golfers win opener

MERCED Sonora High School won its 2003 boys' golf opener yesterday, beating Golden Valley 226-249 at the Merced Country Club.

Andrew Silva led the Wildcats with a 4-over-par 40, and Brandon Schweitz and Sam Branco added 46s. Rounding out the Wildcats' scoring with 47s were Loren Ksiazek and Kyle Richards.

Spencer Rowen shot 37 for Golden Valley, but no other Cougar broke 50.

Sonora plays Golden Valley again Tuesday at Mountain Springs.
