A NEW BASS CLUB for Mother Lode area anglers is being formed by George Broekema of Sonora.

The club will be called the Sonora Bass Anglers and will feature team tournaments on Saturdays. A meeting for those interested will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Smoke Cafe in Jamestown.

There will be open enrollment at the first meeting, and the first tournament will be held at New Hogan Lake on Feb. 8. For information, contact Broekema at 532-3755.

TWO BOATS from the "Twain Harte Connection" headed for Lake Don Pedro on Monday Coach Cas Munoz and John Minor in one and John Baldwin and his son, William, in the other.

Fishing out of Moccasin Point, they both had good outings, taking limits of a mix of rainbow trout and king salmon. Most of the fish ran 12 to 14 inches, but the catch of the day was made by 9-year-old William with a 16-inch, three-pound salmon. They had success with frozen shad, Needlefish and Triple Teaser lures trolled at 20 to 25 feet deep.

That group (minus William) also had limits last week down at New Melones Reservoir. Also, Bob Post and Jim Parker took limits of rainbows last week, with fish running 12 to 14 inches.

THE INTERNATIONAL Sportsmen's Exposition wrapped up its first show in Sacramento last Sunday. The event drew good crowds, thanks to good weather (except for fog), and for those who may have missed out, the show runs at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds from Jan. 29 to Feb. 2.

After spending four days working at the Sacramento show, Danny Layne of Fish'n' Dan's Guide Service tried Melones on Monday, along with Bill Short and Jim Boredlow of Columbia. They picked up four rainbows and a couple of small kokanee. These kokes should be 14 inches or better by May or June.

WATERFOWL HUNTERS will end their long season Sunday and their lives can begin to get back to normal, as they finally might get around to washing that muddy pickup truck or SUV.
