Calaveras outwrestles Summerville

With 10 open weight-classes against the Mother Lode League's most dominant team, the Summerville High School wrestling team dropped a 75-0 decision to Calaveras at Summerville gym on Thursday.

Of the four weight-classes in which the Bears competed, Summerville lost by three decisions and one pin.

In the 112-pound weight class, Thomas Salado Poor dropped a 6-1 decision to Will Fragoza.

In the 135-pound weight class, Justin Cole was beaten 11-9 by Dustin Madsen.

In the 145-pound weight class, Brent Buzinski lost 8-5 to Ron Ramirez.

In the 152-pound weight class, Bryan James was pinned by Elliot Mote at 58 seconds of the second period.

Last Saturday, at the Jackson Lions Club Wrestling Tournament, Summerville finished seventh in the seven-team competition with 49 team points, trailing sixth-place Argonaut by 30 points despite competing in just five of the 10 weight classes.

Second-place finishes at the Jackson tournament went to Cole at 130 pounds and to James at 152 pounds. Salado-Poor (112 pounds) and Buzinski (145 pounds) both took home bronze medals.

Cole, seeded second, won his first round match 13-2 before losing by pin in the championship.

James, seeded fourth, won by pin in his first match and beat the No. 1-seed in the second round before losing by one point in the championship match.

Salado-Poor, seeded fourth, lost by pin in the second round after advancing with a bye in the first round. He finished with back-to-back pins in the third round and consolation finals.

Buzinski, seeded third, lost by pin in the second round after opening with a bye. He rebounded with a pin in the third round and a 13-4 victory in the consolation championship.

Summerville travels to Stockton on Saturday where it will take part in the 14-to-18 team David Mendoza Tournament at Lincoln.

Next week, Summerville hosts Argonaut on Thursday.
