MANTECA Nick Blume, Andrew Ramirez, Josh Moyle and Robert Reed won by pin for Sonora High School in a 54-21 wrestling victory Wednesday night over East Union.

Blume finished Matt Lloyd in 1:54 at 112 pounds, Ramirez put away Brennan Schade in only 32 seconds at 140, Moyle came from behind and flattened John Barker in 5:39 at 145, and Reed got the upper hand on Neil Frisby in 5:44 at 171.

"Robert outlasted him," Sonora coach Jon Abernathy said. "Both of them were on their backs at one time or another."

Other on-the-mat winners for Sonora (5-5-1, 3-1-1 VOL) were Mike Royce, by injury default over Darren Matsumoto at 125; Jordan DePaoli, 9-4 over Chris Osborn at 130. Joel DePaoli (152), Jex Baldwin (160), Andrew Blume (215) and Tim Bates (heavyweight) won by forfeit. All in all, Abernathy said, "Our young wrestlers matched up well with East Union's young team.

It was a good win without senior contributions, except for (Ramirez)."

Sonora is third in the VOL behind its next two opponents, Los Banos (5-0) and Oakdale (4-1). The Wildcats host Los Banos next Wednesday and visit Oakdale in the regular-season finale the following Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Junior Varsity Sonora (4-3, 3-2) beat East Union 42-21 behind pins by Josh Beutler (160) and Robbie Coke (215), a decision by Ryan Stewart (130) and a major decision by Barrett Johnson (171).
