Sonora High School's 34th annual Robert Hatler Memorial Wrestling Tournament is set for Saturday at Bud Castle Gym.

Action begins at 9:30 a.m., and the finals are expected to begin at about 7 p.m.

Sonora is part of a 17-school field that includes defending champion Oakdale and challengers Calaveras of San Andreas, Bret Harte, Davis of Modesto and Tokay of Lodi.

"Calaveras is probably the team favorite, but Oakdale probably has the most guys that are going to do a lot of damage in the postseason," Sonora coach Jon Abernathy said.

Also entered are Summerville, Amador, Argonaut, Buhach Colony of Atwater, Johansen of Modesto, Lincoln of Stockton, Lodi, Mariposa, Pitman of Turlock, Riverbank, and San Lorenzo Valley of Felton.

Individual standouts include Sonora seniors Andrew Ramirez, Joel DePaoli and Jex Baldwin at 140, 152 and 160 pounds, respectively, along with 112-pounders Sam Fragoza of Calaveras and T.J. Dillashaw of Bret Harte, 135-pounder Jeff Cox of Oakdale, and Oakdale 145-pounder Tyler Price.

DePaoli won the Hatler title at 140 pounds for the Wildcats last year, and Baldwin was second at 145. Fragoza finished fourth in the state last year at 103.

A junior varsity version of the Hatler will be held in the Sonora gym annex.
