The girls' cross country and volleyball teams at Bret Harte High School are among the state leaders in academics.

The cross country team, which won the Mother Lode League championship and finished third in the Sac-Joaquin Section, had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.48 out of a possible 4.00.

The volleyball team, which tied for second in the MLL and made the section playoffs, checked in at 3.41.

The state GPA leaders were Valley Center in girls' cross country and Mesrobian of Pico Rivera in volleyball (both 3.93).

Academic awards were established by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) in 1996 to recognize teams with GPAs of 3.5 or higher.

The Summerville girls' cross country team won a state academic championship in 2000.
