Don Pedro High School basketball player Nick Swisegood has spent so much time rewriting the Panthers' record book, he's going to be ready for a career in editing by the end of the season.

Twice already this season, Swisegood, The Union Democrat's Athlete of the Week, has set new school records for points scored in a game, most recently on Saturday when he poured in 39 points to go along with 13 rebounds and five steals while leading Don Pedro to a 60-35 victory over Mountain Oaks of Valley Springs at the Denair Tournament.

Swisegood's record-setting Saturday capped a three-day tournament which saw him equal his season scoring average of 26.3 points per game while earning a spot on the all-tournament team despite the Panthers' disappointing seventh-place finish.

Swisegood's 39-point performance came on the heels of his Dec. 7 effort against the Delhi "B" team when his then-record 33 points led Tioga to a 56-38 win.

Currently, Swisegood, who finished second in the Mountain Valley League's scoring (18.6 ppg) and MVP races last season, has upped his averages to the tune of 26.3 ppg, 10.2 rebounds, two blocks and three assists per game for a 4-7 Panther team.

Vitals: 6-2, 175 pounds.

Don Pedro career: Four-year varsity basketball (all-MVL sophomore and junior years), soccer (all-MVL junior year) and golf.

College plans: "I've watched a lot of junior colleges, and I think Merced would be the best fit for my abilities."

Nickname: Swishgood.

Favorite basketball moment: "My freshman year, I hit a 3-pointer to send the game into triple overtime against Victory Baptist. But, we ended up losing."

Coach's comment: "He's been very good about letting others' jealousy of him slide off his back," Lettman said. "Some of the kids on the team need to remember who the team leader is. Nick's by far the best player we've got, but even with all that stuff, he's been very good about staying positive and encouraging with all of his teammates."
