CERES The Bret Harte High School girls' basketball team beat Patterson 48-31 on Friday and lost to Ceres 58-38 on Saturday to finish third in the four-team, round-robin Ceres Tournament. They lost 65-53 to eventual champion Davis of Modesto (8-2) in the tournament opener Thursday.

Marianne Madsen scored 11 points and Alyssa Cheney 10 against Patterson (7-4) as Bret Harte gained some small measure of revenge for a 52-50 loss to the Tigers in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV semifinals last March. Britney Borba led Patterson with 10 points.

Tawnie Lee's 11 points led the Bullfrogs (5-5) against Ceres (9-3), which jumped all over Bret Harte and led 39-18 at halftime.

Next up for Bret Harte is the eight-team Ripon Christian Tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday in Ripon.
