MODESTO Columbia College's basketball team had a rough shooting night and lost to Siskiyous of Weed, 70-59, Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the 65th annual Modesto Junior College Tournament.

The Claim Jumpers (8-5) shot 7-for-22 (32 percent) from 3-point range and 16-for-39 (41 percent) from inside the arc for a total of 23-for-61 (38 percent).

The only Columbia players who found the range consistently were shooting guard Derek Olich and point guard Mike Smith.

Olich went 4-for-8 on treys and 7-for-13 overall on his way to a team-high 18 points, while Smith went 2-for-3 on threes and 4-for-7 overall on a 10-point night. Olich also dished five assists and Smith four, while forward Kevin Massey pulled seven rebounds and center Adam Avery five.

The Claim Jumpers trailed 36-29 at halftime to the Screamin' Eagles, then rallied for a 57-57 tie before fading in the last four minutes. Siskiyous had a first-round bye in the tournament and now advances to play tournament host Modesto in the semifinals tonight at 6:30.
