At Redding, Sonora (3-4) split its last two games in the Shasta Tournament to finish sixth. The Wildcats beat Shasta of Redding 49-44 in overtime Friday and lost 55-45 to Foothill of Redding on Friday in the consolation finals.

Guard Aaron Jolley scored 11 points against Shasta and five Wildcats scored in overtime, during which Sonora outscored Shasta 7-2. Center Tom McDonnell 18 and guard Zach Dyer 11 against Foothill.

In summing up his team's performance, which included a 61-44 loss Thursday to Enterprise of Redding, Sonora coach Rick Francis said, "We had entirely too many turnovers. If we don't start taking care of the ball, it's going to be a very long year."

Sonora shot only 6-for-13 from the foul line and got outscored 17-8 in the fourth quarter against Foothill.

"We were very, very sluggish," Francis said. "We've got a long way to go and we're running out of time."

Sonora has only five games remaining before its title defense begins in the Valley Oak league.

The Wildcats played in Redding without starting forwards Rob Smittle (family emergency) and Robert Johnson (injury). Their status for Tuesday night's game against Beyer in Modesto is uncertain.
