The combination of Summerville High School turnovers and McQueen of Reno's hot-shooting hand sent the Bears to a 61-52 loss in the first round of the 29th annual Sonora Kiwanis Girls' Basketball Tournament at Sonora's Bud Castle Gym on Thursday night.

"(McQueen) does some really good things offensively," Summerville coach Darcy Wingo said. "For still being this early in the year, I'm not displeased at all with the way we played."

After battling back from a double-digit, second-quarter deficit to trail just 32-29 at halftime, Summerville regained the lead for the first time since midway through the first quarter when Leena Van Treece and the Bears' offense began to heat up in the final minutes of the third quarter.

Van Treece (12 points, five rebounds) scored six straight points and freshman K.C. Benner hit a 3-pointer from well behind the line at the buzzer to finish off an 11-2 Summerville run over the final 3:30 of the period, giving Summerville a 45-44 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Summerville committed nine turnovers and scored just seven points (four by Melissa Wise, who finished with eight points and four rebounds) in the final period while McQueen's Amber Delaney scored five of her game-high 20 points to lead the Lancers to the nine-point win.

Turnovers proved to be the difference in the game as Summerville committed a total of 29 to McQueen's 10 and scored just seven points off turnovers to McQueen's 37. In the second half alone, the Bears committed 17 turnovers to McQueen's five and scored zero points off turnovers to McQueen's 17.

Megan Wingo's strong first quarter kept the Lancers (1-0) from running away in the first quarter when she
