Murphys netter wins consolation title


SAN ANDREAS Robert Peterson of Murphys won the under-15 singles consolation championship in a Future Stars tennis tournament held at the Gold Hunter Club.

He defeated Rachel Shelton of Sonora in the finals, 6-2, 6-0.

Another player representing the Highway 4 corridor, Jordan Chee of Angels Camp, finished as the consolation runner-up in boys' 18 singles. He fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to Jim Logsden of Modesto in the finals.

Chee also teamed with Joel Metzger of San Andreas to win the boys' 18 doubles title, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 over Brad Harris and Beau Gillman of Jackson.

Metzger was third in boys' 18 singles after a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Austin Harrison of Lodi.

Other winners were Jessica Harris of Jackson in under-15 singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Jessica Fulton of Volcano; Brad Harris in boys' 18 singles, 6-1, 6-2 over Nick Franco of Stockton; Logsden and Ryan Espinoza of Modesto in boys' 18 consolation doubles, 6-3, 6-1 over Harrison and Priit Valtu of Lodi; Kathryn Abarbachuk of Jackson in girls' 18 singles, 6-1, 6-1 over Heather Fulton of Volcano; Jenny Hunt of Jackson in girls' 18 consolation singles, 6-1, 6-1 over Brynetta Warren of Manteca; and the Fultons in girls' 18 doubles, 6-2, 6-1 over Warren and Hunt
