Wagner wins golf title at Meadowmont

THE MEN'S CLUB champion at Meadowmont in Arnold is Ralph Wagner.

He shot a score of 140 to top Adolph Decoto by two strokes. Ed Williams came in third.

THE WINNING TEAM in the Meadowmont Merchants League is Calaveras Home Loan Corporation.

Big Trees Market came in second, Kruse Construction third, Snowshoe Brewery fourth, Foutz Construction fifth, Jarnagin Construction sixth, Al-Cal Building Supply seventh and M&M Drafting eighth.

A fall league is scheduled to run from Sept. 4 through Oct. 23. Call the pro shop for information at 795-1313. Entry fee is $100 per team.

A FOURSOME from Greenhorn Creek took part in the Northern California Golf Association Zone Championship on Monday and Tuesday at Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach.

Bob Holston, Jim Turner, Roger Myers and Larry Crockett shot 138 in the first round and 135 in the second for a total of 273, which left them in 24th place out of 28 teams. They made the field via zone qualifying earlier this year.

Another Calaveras County team, from La Contenta, tied for 13th at 266 with rounds of 132 and 134. Dave Benedetti, Mitchell Mariani, Bobby Persinger and Chad Swan represented the Valley Springs club.

The championship was won, appropriately enough, by Champions of Sacramento with a score of 240 14 strokes in the clear.
