TCA swimmers record 82 bests

STOCKTON Twenty-six members of the Tuolumne County Aquatics swam 82 best times in their first long-course meet of the season, the Tiger Invitational at the University of the Pacific.

James Pedro, Daniel Friel, Maija Swanson, Christa Pedro, Danny Scott and Nicole Henderson recorded bests in all their events, accounting for more than nine minutes of improvement.

Pedro, competing in the 13-14 age group, led the way with six improvements that included team records in the the 400-meter freestyle (4 minutes, 56.35 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (1:17.39). He dropped 40 seconds in the 400 alone for an "A" time standard. He also went AA in the 50 free (29.42), BB in the 100 backstroke (1:19.43), B in the 100 breaststroke (1:35.23) and both B and BB in his first try at the 200 back (2:49.15).

Friel, 10, also has six bests, inlcuding a drop of a minute-and-a-half in the 400 free (6:16.71) that gave him a team record and both B and BB standards. Friel also had BB times in the in the 50 fly (43.26), 100 breast (1:42.29) and 100 back (1:40.69).

Swanson, 12, had seven bests that included a 40-second drop and a BB time in the 400 free (5:47.54). She also went BB in the 200 free (2:49.08) and 50 free (36.60).

Christa Pedro, 13, and Scott, 14, improved in all five of their events. Pedro knocked off 34 seconds in the 200 free (3:03.29) and 23 in the 400 free (6:27.17), while Scott dropped 13 seconds in the 100 back (1:21.99) and 12 in the 200 free (2:29.08).

Henderson, 10, had six bests that included a BB time in the 50 free (39.22).

Sammy Guthrie, 8, broke six team records in the 8-and-under division, setting new marks in the 50 free (39.04), 100 free (1:31.33), 50 back (49.22), 100 back (1:52.04), 50 breast (1:03.27) and 100 breast (2:13.96). He had a Sierra Nevada Reportable time in the 50 free and an A time in the 100 free.
