Rain plays havoc with postseason schedules

Monday and Tuesday's rain played havoc with baseball and softball playoffs throughout the Sac-Joaquin Section.

Monday's entire schedule was rained out and only two Division I South baseball games were played Tuesday. Barring more rainouts, however, everything will finish as originally scheduled except Division I North baseball, for which the finals have been moved from Friday night to Saturday afternoon at American River College in Sacramento. For complete brackets, see Page 3B.

All four divisions were affected in both sports. Not all games were directly rained out, but some that were not had to be switched for scheduling. Mother Lode League teams were among those having to roll with Mother Nature's went and windy punches.

Baseball champion Amador (17-3) and runner-up Bret Harte (15-9) had their second-round games rained out Tuesday and rescheduled for today at 4 p.m. at Zupo Field in Lodi and at Galt Community Park, respectively. Bret Harte plays Vanden of Travis Air Force Base (18-4-2) and defending section champion Amador takes on River City of West Sacramento (18-6).

The semifinals remain on their original date, Thursday, with the Bret Harte-Vanden winner playing Patterson (19-7) or Dixon (14-13) at 4 p.m. and the Amador-River City winner meeting either Union Mine of El Dorado (16-6) or Ripon (18-5) at 7. The title game in the single-elimination tournament is next Tuesday at 7 at Zupo.

Bret Harte opened last Saturday with a 4-2 victory over Golden Sierra of Garden Valley, while Amador had a bye.

The MLL's No. 1 and No. 3 softball qualifiers, Brookside Christian of Stockton (29-1) and Amador (17-11) were rained out of Tuesday's second-round games and will play tonight at 6 against Golden Sierra (22-11) and Lincoln of Placer County (23-6), respectively.
