Baseball Frogs blank Modesto Christian, 3-0

SALIDA Justin Giuffra and Brian Coggins combined to pitch a three-hit shutout for Bret Harte High School in a 3-0 baseball victory over Modesto Christian on Tuesday.

Giuffra, a junior right-hander, struck out six and walked three in five innings and Coggins finished up, striking out one and walking none in the last two frames.

The Bullfrogs (2-2) didnt overpower the Crusaders at the plate, but they got what they needed from junior Travis Emerson, who went 3 for 4 with a run batted in.

Out offense is still struggling, but were playing good defense and were throwing strikes, Bret Harte coach Heath Lane.

Bret Harte scored two runs in the top of the third, one on a single by Emerson and the other on a sacrifice fly by John Dorsey. It stayed 2-0 until the seventh, when Dorsey, went to third on an Emerson single and scored on a double steal.

The Bullfrogs are back in action Friday in a night game at Livingston. The first pitch it set for 6:30 p.m.
