Boys basketball coming up in Calaveras

Boys basketball season is fast approaching for elementary and middle schools in Calaveras and Amador counties.

Tuesday, Dec. 18, is the tipoff date for league play among fifth- through eighth-graders. A typical season for fifth through seventh consists of 16 or 17 games, while eighth-grade teams can play more than 20 league and tournament games.

The Vallecito Tournament is on for late January in Avery and the season will culminate in the big AMA Tournament Feb. 11-16 in Angels Camp.

Hazel-Fischer, Michelson, Mark Twain, Copperopolis, San Andreas, Valley Springs, Jenny Lind, Mokelumne Hill, Jackson and Sutter Creek are the schools participating in the fifth and sixth league.

In the seventh and eighth league are Avery, Mark Twain, Toyon, Jackson, Ione and Waterloo.
