KINGSVILLE, Texas Summerville High School product Michael Oliva set a University of California at Davis record with 233 receiving yards Saturday in the Aggies 37-32 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville in the first round of the NCAA Division II football playoffs.

Oliva, a junior wideout, caught eight passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns, eclipsing the previous record of 229 yards set by Calvin Ellison against Puget Sound of Washington in 1978. Oliva caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from J.T. OSullivan with 8:25 left in the second quarter and then hauled in a 52-yard scoring strike with just 52 seconds left before halftime.

OSullivan and Oliva helped Davis (9-2) pile up 393 passing yards and 506 total yards against the third-ranked defense in Division II. Oliva leads the team with 61 catches for 1,201 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Also contributing to the Davis victory was guard Andy Wilson, a senior from Sonora.

The Aggies host Tarleton State of Texas (10-2) in a quarterfinal game Saturday, Nov. 24, at Toomey Field in Davis. Tarleton upset the West Regions top seed, Chadron State of Nebraska, 28-24. The Davis-Tarleton winner advances to the semifinals Saturday, Dec. 1, against either North Dakota (11-1) or Pittsburg State of Kansas (11-1). The championship game is Saturday, Dec. 8, in Florence, Ala.

Davis made the semifinals last year before losing at home to Bloomsburg State of Pennsylvania. Bloomsburg lost in the first round to Grand Valley State of Michigan, 42-14.
