Congratulations, Raelene Juarez. You are the proud new coach of a bouncing baby volleyball team.

Juarez, who is replacing outgoing Columbia College volleyball coach and current athletic director Morgan McBride, can expect to hear a lot of congratulations in the near future. In addition to taking over a team not exactly pregnant with expectations following last years two-win season, Juarez is expecting to deliver her and her husband, Richs, second child on Sept. 13.

Thats a lot of expectations for any new coach.

Luckily, the 27-year-old Juarez has already played this game of delivering both on and off the court once before, so dont expect her to feel overwhelmed.

Im really excited, Juarez said. Im looking forward to interacting with the girls and teaching and sharing my knowledge with them.

She takes over for Morgan McBride, who is on sabbatical. McBride coached the Claim Jumpers from when the program was re-established in 1992 through last season.

Juarez, who last spent a season on the sidelines as an assistant coach at Butte College in Oroville in 1997, has been on an extended maternity leave following the 1998 birth of her first child. During that time, she earned her masters degree in physical education from Chico State Univeristy and began work on her doctoral thesis at Virginia Tech University following her familys move to Blacksburg, Va.

But before motherhood forced her to the sidelines, Juarez racked up six years worth of coaching experience after her playing career at Madera High School (Class of 1991) and Fresno City College (Class of 1993) ended.
