Sonora netters sweep Mustangs

Sonora High School completed a girls' tennis season sweep of archrival Oakdale by beating the Mustangs 8.5-6.5 on the Sonora courts yesterday.

The Wildcats (8-7, 8-6 Valley Oak League) clinched the victory by winning the last two sets of the match to break a 6.5-6.5 tie. No. 1 singles player Josee Bowser beat Oakdale No. 2 Lauren Crecelius 6-2, and No. 3 Rebecca Shelton upset Oakdale No. 1 Kara Holtzclaw 6-3.

Bowser and Sonora No. 2 Molly Hongola both went 3-0, while the No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Boyack and Heidi Diestel picked up a point-and-a-half with one victory.

The match was much closer than Sonora's 10.5-4.5 victory Sept. 25 in Oakdale.

Two regular-season matches remain for Sonora, both at home tomorrow against Sierra of Manteca and Monday against Manteca High in the makeup of an Oct. 16 postponement.
