Lowery wins women's title at Forest Meadows

THE WOMEN'S club champion for 2003 at Forest Meadows in Murphys is Diane Lowery.

She claimed the title in the championship (scratch) flight, while Gloria Winsby and Carol Zamzow won handicap crowns in the A and B flights, respectively.

MOUNTAIN SPRINGS representative Allen Herd finished a respectable 15 strokes off the pace at the 22nd annual Northern California Golf Association Master Division Championship at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley near Truckee.

Herd's rounds of 78 and 80 on the par-71 course left him with a 36-hole total of 158 strokes, good for 28th in a field of 95 players.

James Hay (73-70143) from Diablo Grande of Patterson squeaked out a one-stroke win over Jim Knoll (Rooster Run, Petaluma) and Randy Haag (Olympic Club, San Francisco) by sinking a clutch, 10-foot par putt on the final hole.

THE TEAM of Steve Chaviel and Ron Stacy of Greenhorn Creek finished in a five-way tie for 19th place in the 35th NCGA Four-Ball Net Championship at Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach.

Chaviel-Stacy (70-66136) finished eight strokes under par and 11 shots behind the winning score of 125 posted by Tim Finnegan and Gary Costello (Whitney Oaks, Rocklin) in the 56-team field.
