Tioga soccer, volleyball lose

Elliot Christian of Lodi handed Tioga High School a four-game loss at Tenaya School in Groveland last night.

"We were ahead in every game ? lost our focus (and) let them back in the match," Tioga coach Tim Donovan said of his team's 25-15 21-25, 25-16, 25-22 defeat. "We make some outstanding plays on the ball, and then turn around and miss a much easier play.

"We're getting there, but just have to work harder."

The Timberwolves (5-5, 2-3 Mountain Valley League) were led by Katie Wrighton (20 service points), Melissa West (19), Janessa Owens (15, six blocks) and Amanda Bechthold (14).

Tioga visits Calvary Temple in Modesto on Friday.

The winless Timberwolves (0-6, 0-3 MVL) dropped a 6-0 decision to Elliot Christian on the Tioga field in Groveland.

"(Yesterday), we were flat out-hustled by a hungrier ? team," Tioga coach Bob Roman said. "As long as we continue to ball-watch, and let the opposition make clean passes ahead while on the attack, we are going to continue to be mired in our uncharacteristic slump.

"Some of our players haven't yet appreciated the elevation of play required when one leaves recreational soccer."

Andrew Katosic score Tioga's goal at the 57-minute mark off a pass from Josh Bechtold.

Tioga will host Samuel Hancock of Stockton on Friday.
