SONORA JUNIOR Molly Hongola rips a backhand return during one of her victories.

The Sonora High School girls' tennis team's hot streak continued yesterday with a 10.5-4.5 win over Oakdale at the Sonora courts.

After living off the strength of their doubles teams in Tuesday's win at Manteca, the Wildcats (4-4, 4-3 Valley Oak League) dusted Oakdale for their third win this week thanks to their singles players.

Behind Josee Bowser, Molly Hongola and Kelli Bermudes, Sonora won all nine singles matches, with Bowser (6-1, 6-0, 6-0) and Bermudes (6-2, 6-1, 6-2) winning their matches with relative ease.

After winning her first two matches 6-0 and 6-1, Hongola had to battle back from a 4-1 deficit to win her third match in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4).

"(Freshman) Kelli Bermudes had her best day yet," Sonora coach Carey Marmesh said. "She really is gaining confidence, and as a result, is playing better each time she goes onto the court."

Sonora's No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Boyack and Heidi Diestel and No. 2 doubles team of Kelly Howard and Rachel Samuelian dropped three of their four matches, with Boyack-Diestel beating Oakdale's No. 2 team 10-2.

The Cats resume VOL play on Tuesday at East Union of Manteca.

Kelly Adams shot a season-best 47 and all five Sonora scorers bested their season averages as the Wildcats eased past Pitman 293-307 yesterday at Diablo Grande Ranch in Patterson.

"Although Pitman was a team we had lost by two strokes to earlier in the season, they were a team we thought we could compete with," Sonora coach Steve Lee said. "It's a good way to go into the second half of the season."

Adams' round of 47 was six strokes lower than her season average of 53. Also beating their averages were Suzie Long (58), Amber Allen (58), Shannon Ferrell (63) and Brenna Shepherd (67).

Adams is ranked No. 5 in the 66-player VOL as a freshman.
