Susan White and Sheila Monaghan of the Tuolumne County Aquatics Masters finished first and second, respectively, in their age groups of the prestigious RCP Tiburon Mile, which drew 450 top swimmers from as far away as Russia and Australia.

White clocked 33 minutes, 21 seconds for a nautical mile in San Francisco Bay from Angel Island to the town of Tiburon. She won the women's 60-99 division.

Mongahan, competing in women's 50-59, posted a time of 30:02.

The overall winner was Chad Carvin of Laguna Hills in a course-record 18:51. Three-time Olympic gold medalist Brooke Bennett of Valrico, Fla., won the women's race for the fourth time in 19:30.

The Wildcats (1-3, 1-2 VOL) lost 11-4 loss to Buhach Colony in Atwater.

Coach Carey Marmesh said the match of the day was between her No. 1 doubles team of Heidi Diestel and Hannah Boyack, and the Buhach pair of Missy Siatong and Linda Nguyen. Diestel and Boyack lost 10-7, but only after reeling off six straight games to erase a 7-2 deficit.

"It looked like their were going to pull it off, but they lost concentration and let a few too many unforced errors in," Marmesh said.

They bounced back to beat Kristen Gong-Tiger Pacheco 10-2.

Sonora's other points came from Eli Rezacova and Nicole Naude, 11-10 (12-10) in a doubles tiebreaker against Siatong and Nguyen, and Josee Bowser, 6-1 over Karen Chambers in singles. Rezavoca suffered a hand injury in her second match while crashing into a fence chasing down an opposing shot.

Nash Lundquist scored for the Wildcats (1-11, 0-1 VOL) in a 4-1 league-opening loss to East Union of Manteca at Dunlavy Field.

Matt Reimers assisted on the goal, which produced a temporary 1-1 tie in the 30th minute. East Union pulled away with goals in the 60th, 66th and 77th minutes.

"While the final score didn't reflect it, the game was fairly even throughout much of the first half and at least the first portion of the second," Sonora coach Rick Mogg said. "We matched EU shot for shot as both teams ended up with 14 shots on goal."
