Mini-golf tourney to benefit scholarship fund

THE GAME will be boiled down a bit when the Twain Harte Area Chamber of Commerce hosts its "Pro-Am Mini-Golf Tournament" to benefit the 2004 Chamber Scholarship Fund.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 26, through Thursday, Aug. 28, with sessions from 6 to 8 p.m. each day at the Twain Harte Miniature Golf Course on Fuller Road.

The entry fee is $20 per two-person team, and there will be competition in business and non-business divisions. The business winners will get to keep the tournament's perpetual trophy for a year, and prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in both divisions.

"Pro" players get to use their own putters, while their "amateur" partners will use one provided by the course.

Players can enter by calling the chamber at 586-4482 or dropping by the office on Joaquin Gully Road. The entry deadline is Saturday, Aug. 23.

MOUNTAIN SPRINGS PRO Mike Cook tied for 10th place in the PGA of American Northern California Section Stroke-Play Championship and Regional Club Profesional Championship Qualifier at the Winchester Countrty Club in Meadow Vista, near Auburn.

Cook opened Monday with a 4-over-par 76, but came back yesterday with a 1-under 71 for a 36-hole total of 147. He shared his top 10 spot with Shawn Kelly from The Ridge of Auburn, Stuart Smith of Granite Bay, and Bobby Siravo from Del Paso of Sacramento.

As one of the top 18 scorers in the 103-player tournament, Cook qualified for the Western Regional Club Professional Championship, which is in October in Olympia, Wash.

The winner at Winchester was Jin Park from Spyglass Hill of Pebble Beach with a 73-68141.
