Patty Allen matched the sizzling temperatures as she swam six personal bests and set three team records for TCA-Fitness in the Junior Olympics, which were held in a new 50-meter pool at the Redding Aquatic Center.

Allen, 14, broke Kim Clinite's 1998 record in the 400 IM by three seconds with a time of 5:50.53, beat Nikole Harmon's mark by two seconds in the 200 backstroke (2:46.29), and lowered her own month-old record in the 200 fly by four seconds (2:52.46).

Allen's postings in the IM and back were "A" times.

Katie Baier, 16, swam seven bests and broke her own team records twice in the 50 free (29.0). She was the lone team member to make the final eighth in an event, doing so in both the 50 free and 100 back.

She qualified sixth in the back with a personal best of 1:14.82 and better her time to 1:14.62 while holding sixth place in the finals.

In the 50 free, Baier qualified sixth in her record time and moved up to fifth in the finals despite a slightly slower mark (29.05).

Baier also swam an A time in the 400 IM, which she was swimming for only the second time overall and for the first time in a meter pool.

Austin Nieh, swimming in the 13-14 age group, counted two team records among his six personals bests. He broke Michael Baier's 1997 record in the 200 IM by two seconds (2:40.34) and eclipsed James Pedro's 2002 mark in the 100 fly (1:14.35).

Nieh had A times in the (M and the 100 back (1:15.58), and reached B, BB and A standards all at once in the 400 free (5:01.62).

Alex Arnold, 13, had personal bests in all seven of his events, dropping nearly four seconds in the 200 back (2:49.06).

Kelsea Arnold, 15, had six bests that included an A time in the 50 free (32.32); Daniel Friel, 12, swam the 800 free for the first time and hit B and BB standards; and Dan Merthe, 15, came close to his best in the 50 free (29.80).

Time standards qualify swimmers for various meets in Northern California.
