Ardent trap shooter Bob Slater Jr. of Sonora took a trip to visit a long time friend, Steve Vuyovich, who is originally from Jamestown.

The state of Utah was holding its annual Trap Shooting Championships at the same time, so Slater decided to participate. The atmosphere must have been to his liking as he broke 300 straight clays to win the out-of-state 16-yard championship

Slater also hit 396 out of 400 to win the out-of-state title in the all-around competition a combination of 200 shots from the 16-yard line, 100 in doubles, and 100 from a handicap of 27 yards.

The shoot was held in Spanish Forks.

Several others attended the California State Trap Shooting Championships in Kingsburg. Among whom were Bob Post, Les Ray, Herb and Kay Hoover, and Dave and Chris Cowan.
