High Sierra reaches championship round

High Sierra beat Calaveras American 12-7 last night at Jerry Whitehead Field in Tuolumne to move into the championship round of Little League baseball's District 15 Traveling All-Star Tournament in the Minor Division for ages 9 and 10.

A.J. Sooter, Jared English and Eddy Cruz each went 4-for-4 as the team representing the Belleview, Soulsbyville and Twain Harte school districts won its fifth straight elimination game. Sooter scored three runs; English doubled, scored three runs and had a run batted in; and Cruz tripled, scored two runs and drove in three.

Also, Karson Canaday went 3-for-3 with a run, Rocco Pallante 2-for-2 with a run and two RBIs, Isaiah Hazelton 2-for-4 with an RBI and Robert Perkins 1-for-1 with a double and a run.

High Sierra plays tournament host Westside of Tuolumne and Standard tonight at 6. If High Sierra comes out on top, there'll be a winner-take-all rematch tomorrow night at 6. If Westside wins either game, it will take the title and move into the Section 6 tournament next week in Sanger.

For third-place Cal American, representing Angels Camp and Copperopolis, Tyler Bennett went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Jacob Willis went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
