Woods Creek cruises to junior title

WOODS CREEK CRUISES TO JUNIOR TITLE

SUTTER CREEK Woods Creek of Sonora and Columbia captured the District 15 Junior Traveling All-Star championship for ages 13 and 14 on Thursday with a dominating 8-0 Little League baseball victory over Linden at Amador High School.

Alex Stewart pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and four walks, and also went 3-for-5 with a double.

Josh Schultz went 3-for-4, Taylor Thrift went 2-for-3 with a walk, and Ryan Williston and Ryles Richards both went 2-for-4 with a run batted in.

Woods Creek was virtually unchallenged in the tournament, winning its three games by a combined score of 35-1.

Next up is the Section 6 tournament. Coach Rich Stewart is awaiting official word on when and where his team will play. He said he had been told his first game is July 17 in Turlock, and also that it's July 19 in Roseville.
