Woods Creek rolled into the District 15 Little League All-Star Juniors (13- to 14-year-olds) championship game with a 12-0 victory over Linden yesterday at Amador High School in Sutter Creek.

For the second straight game, Woods Creek (Sonora and Columbia) rode the arm and bat of its starting pitcher. After Devin Goodman led Woods Creek to a 15-1 win over Amador East on Monday, it was Willie Dutra's turn yesterday.

On the mound, Dutra gave up just two hits while striking out 13 before the game was ended by the mercy rule after the sixth inning. In addition to his complete-game shutout, Dutra also was perfect at bat, going 2-for-2 with two walks and one RBI.

After Woods Creek grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Dutra's defense got him out of his only jam of the day via a triple play in the bottom half of the first.

With the bases loaded and nobody out, Woods Creek second baseman Kyle Dodge dove and caught a soft liner on the infield grass. Dodge then alertly threw to first baseman Ryles Richards to double up that baserunner for the second out. Richards then completed the triple play by gunning the ball to third baseman Josh Schultz to nip that baserunner.

From there, Woods Creek rolled, scoring three more in the second and fifth innings before putting the game away with a four-run sixth.

Spencer Stobaugh capped a 5-for-5 performance at the plate with a three-run double in the sixth, giving him two doubles and five runs batted on the day.

Also hitting well for Woods Creek were Alex Stewart (2-for-3, walk, RBI), Frank Lavalero (2-for-2, 2 walks, 2 runs) and Schultz (0-for-0, 4 walks, run).

Next up for Woods Creek will be the championship game at 6 p.m. tomorrow on Field 1. Woods Creek will play the winner of today's elimination game between Linden and Amador West, which eliminated Amador East with an 18-13 victory yesterday in the losers bracket.

Because Woods Creek is the only undefeated team remaining in the double-elimination tournament, a second championship game will be scheduled for next week if it loses tomorrow.
