WOODS CREEK OPENS WITH BIG WIN

Woods Creek opened the Juniors division (13- to 14-year-olds) of the Little League Baseball's District 15 All-Star Tournament with a decisive 15-1 victory over Amador East yesterday on Field 1 at Amador High School.

Devin Goodman paced Woods Creek (Sonora and Columbia) both at the plate and on the mound. Goodman (2-for-4, home run, double, walk, 2 RBI) led off the game with a home run while striking out 13 and allowing just one hit in five innings of work.

The game was ended by the mercy rule after the top of the fifth inning because Woods Creek led by 10-plus runs.

Also hitting well for Woods Creek were Ryles Richards (3-for-5, two triples, 3 RBI), Ryan Williston (3-for-3, home run, hit-by-pitch, 3 RBI) and Spencer Stobaugh (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI).

Woods Creek will face Linden at 6 p.m. today on Field 1 in a second-round, winners-bracket matchup. Linden began the double-elimination tournament with a 21-5 victory over Amador West yesterday.

In the only other Juniors' game scheduled for today, Amador East and Amador West will play an elimination game at 6 p.m. on Field 2.

Tomorrow, the loser of today's Woods Creek-Linden game will play the winner of today Amador East-Amador West matchup at 6 p.m. on Field 2. It will be an elimination game for either Amador East or Amador West.

The winner of today's Woods Creek-Linden game will play the winner of tomorrow's game at 6 p.m. Thursday on Field 1.
